Since the last update we completed the upstairs hallway with the same floor we put in the kitchen, and new doors. We also completed the entry way. We used the same floor as upstairs for the entry, pulled the carpet off the stairs and stained the wood treads that were there to match the floor, added white risers. We took out the old railing and replaced it with iron balusters with the handrail stained to match the floor. We also finally put the cup pulls on the kitchen cabinet drawers.
In an effort to seal the house properly and make it more energy efficient, Rob sealed up the cantilevers around the front and back of the house. It has made a big difference! So much so that our energy bill dropped $100/mo! And I can't forget - we have a new roof! We had some damage from a hail storm so insurance gave us a new one. Not gonna complain about that as we needed to replace it anyway! :)
Now we are working on the downstairs. We pulled down all of the walls in the back of the house and put new ones up. We combined the 2 back bedrooms into one big bedroom and made the office a little bigger. We also installed the track for a sliding door as the entry to the laundry room. The ceiling in the hall was redone so that now it is flat and not stairstepped. And we added a new hall light.
Moving into the family room... The textured ceiling was removed and a new flat ceiling is now in it's place. The fireplace hearth was completely removed and the fireplace wall was covered by a new wall made from drywall. We have installed a pellet stove, utilizing the fireplace for the smoke. A 4 foot area behind the stove will be stacked stone. A new sliding door will be installed and a whole new floor will be laid. The bedroom and office will both have new carpet installed. New lights were installed and new doors will be hung.
The bathroom and laundry room will be completed at another time.

A Quick Update
Well, we haven't done a whole lot since finishing the kitchen so there's not much to share here. We have started a little work in the backyard, changed the front door and tore out the entry in preparation for redoing that whole area. That project, along with all the others, is currently on hold. Eventually we will add the back splash in the kitchen and we plan to redo the upstairs hall as well. Downstairs will be completely renovated when we start down there.

Kitchen Update
Everything has been ordered! Parts are starting to come in and we are getting excited! It will be a while before the kitchen is all put back together since we are also working around Rob's schedule, but it'll be worth it in the end.
We pulled up more of the floor this past weekend. Much easier then pulling up the ceramic tile! Still some floor to pull up that is under the cabinets, but it should all come out fairly easy when we get to it.
Photos to come.

Last Minute Change
We checked another store for pricing on the cabinets and while browsing through the samples decided on a color change. We are going with the original store we started at, but will now be getting these cabinets...
Grove Collection, Maple with Coffee Glaze

It is the same line (Grove Collection) and wood (Maple) as the first set we chose, but the color is lighter.

Floor Demo
Rob pulled a corner of the kitchen floor tonight to find out what is under the ceramic tile. Hoping he would find that it will be easy to pull the floor up. Not gonna happen hun! This is what we found....

What you see here is the ceramic tile on top followed by the backer board, then a layer of linoleum and it's backer, and finally another layer of linoleum (this being the original floor from 85 when the house was built).
24 years and 3 floors. Now it's our turn to put a floor in. But we're only laying one layer... :)
